Workshop
Building Places for Appearing
This workshop presents grounded research on three congregations in Southern Ontario (GTA), focusing on the experiences of children with disabilities and their families. The research explores their experiences of ‘place’ (i.e., physical environments in churches/children’s ministries) and offers a constructive-critical report on how churches can ‘build places for appearing’ among diverse individuals. Practical insights will be offered for ministry leaders to consider physical aspects of their ministry space and how these spaces enable (or disable) people with disabilities to engage fully (‘appear’) in their churches. Note: while this research is conducted in Southern Ontario (GTA), efforts will be made to uphold confidentiality. Further, these congregations represent diverse ethnic backgrounds and geographical settings, providing a breadth of insights applicable in multiple settings.
I am looking for your input! Consider completing this survey.
